T-minus 7 days until the USAs and I’ll tell you what… I am BEYOND excited! I’m not quite sure how I am going to sleep the next few nights. Luckily I work 24-hour shifts at the Fire Station and rarely sleep as it is 🙂 Nothing will change for me in this last week. No need to do anything drastic or last minute. It has already been done. In fact, it began 30 years ago.

In Part 1, I talked about the Three Synergistic Components of the fitness lifestyle; Mental, Physical, and Emotional. I highlighted the mental, the foundation for all the others. Today I go over the Physical (or the one most people equate with fitness).

PHYSICAL – It’s All A Byproduct:

Cause and effect. Set a goal. Be willing to take the necessary steps to achieve it. Take them… And voila! Now, this doesn’t happen overnight. Your major goals will take years (that’s why they are LONG TERM) but follow the steps and you WILL get there. Sadly most people skip the steps in the middle and never reach their destination. If you want to get somewhere, you have to have a means by which to travel, otherwise how can you arrive? This is where the “Byproduct” comes into play. The “Byproduct” being looking, functioning, and feeling amazing. The PHYSICAL part. Too many people’s primary focus is the end physical result, which often breaks them down. Don’t let this happen to you. Focus on the steps it takes to achieve your goal. ENJOY the journey and the byproduct will happen.

Days before contest, I am able to function at both of my highly physical and demanding careers; Firefighting and Fitness Coaching. I am strong, healthy and have tons of energy. I can’t believe how many are in “Contest Prep Mode” and spend theirs days complaining or feeling downright awful. If that is how you feel on a consistent basis, it is time to make some MAJOR changes. In the end our bodies are much smarter than we will ever be and they know what they need. When it is telling us something, it is time to listen. Fight your body and you will lose. Work with your body and you will have the best teammate you could ever hope for!

7 Days Out from the USA’s but over 25,000 days to go in this life. I don’t plan on wasting a single one of them. I can’t wait for the opportunities that will come this week and I am excited about the uncertainties that will arise. I head out to Vegas on Thursday morning after getting off of a 24 Hour Shift at one of the busiest Fire Stations in the Country… Talk about a great way to peak. After arriving, I’ll get settled, check in, and enjoy the company of my fellow competitors.

There are some truly amazing, fun-loving and positive people that compete at this elite level. I can’t wait to feed off their energy. Being a Firefighter, and no stranger to a true Brotherhood, the camaraderie is one of the major draws for me to Men’s Physique. It is made up of some of the most humble and hardworking guys I have ever met. Many of us have been waiting for our perfect niche to spread our wings. With the introduction of Men’s Physique, we now have it and are thankful for it!

That doesn’t mean that this isn’t also one of the most competitive bunch of people as well, because this division is one of the fastest growing and most competitive to EVER be introduced into the NPC/IBFF. The best way that I can describe it is something that I was taught early on in football (which I played through the Division II College Level) – When you absolutely demolish someone into the ground, you help them back up and when you score a touchdown or make a big play, you act like you have been there before. This is TRUE SPORTMANSHIP and this is MEN’S PHYSIQUE!

Come July 30th, 2011 it’s time to do battle and every true Warrior hopes to meet the individual on the Battlefield that is a worthy opponent and let me tell you… There is going to be A LOT of Warriors in Las Vegas!
