NEVER GIVE UP!

All my life I have dealt with being overweight/obese, which has led me to some very dark times. As I was grew into my teenage years, I developed severe social anxiety and started stuttering, which caused me to be both overweight and unhappy. As I entered into high school, that’s when it got even worse. I ended up not going to school and stayed inside all of the time. All combined, this led me to my heaviest, weighing in at 250 lbs at age 16.

After a year not doing anything, I grew sick and tired of letting my insecurities bring me down all the time. So I decided it was time to change my mind and body for the better, giving myself a whole new outlook on life. I started educating myself on how to lose weight and get healthier, which led me to start exercising regularly while making sure I was eating right.

I ended up completely overhauling my diet by cutting out any fast food, soda and junk food, since I basically lived on all of those – drinking at least four cups of soda per day. Along with cutting those out, I educated myself on what foods are best for me. This led me to complex carbs, a lot of veggies, lean protein sources and healthy fats. I have to say, once I started changing up my nutrition, my overall mood and body was changing for the better.

Along with getting my diet in check, I knew I had to move around more and start to exercise regularly. At first I started doing cardio on my treadmill seven days a week, which made me see great results. After I got more comfortable with that, I started incorporating weight training thanks to my dad getting me a bench set for Christmas. After the first month of doing so, I got addicted to it and started to feel better, so I kept up the routine religiously. As the weeks moved on, I noticed the pounds come off more and more.

Fast forward ten months, I ended up losing a grand total of 100 pounds, which brought me down to 150 lbs. Up to that point, that was my proudest moment – and I even surprised myself. But, with that, came the desire/need to keep losing weight. I ended up dropping down to 140 lbs, which was not healthy at all.

My anxiety creeped back a bit, and I thought I was too skinny. After another reality check, I became inspired by bodybuilding. I was determined to build muscle and get my physique where I really wanted it to be. I educated myself even more, started to hit the weights even more and started to feel the way I always wanted to feel.

I owe a lot of my progress to my family for supporting me and understanding why I wanted and needed to change myself for the better. After a year building muscle and transforming myself even more, people noticed a different person in me and started asking me for help and advice. I was shocked about that, and I promised I would do whatever I could to help others to better themselves. After four very long years and many obstacles that I had to overcome, I can now say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and have the most confidence ever!

Right now I sit at 160 lbs and keep on striving to be even better every day. I have helped my family and friends reach their goals as well, overcoming their own obstacles with a healthy lifestyle. Just recently, I’m helping my brothers with their transformation journeys and it feels amazing to be able to help them through it. My goal now is to give back and help as many people as I can, show that anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it and, most importantly, NEVER GIVE UP!

Here are the Top 5 important lessons I learned through my journey:

1. Never give up – you will only deprive yourself of a better life. YOU CAN DO THIS!

2. Progress takes time, so don’t get discouraged. Even the smallest steps forward are still steps forward.

3. Enjoy life while on your transformation journey.

4. Trust the process. If you put in the work, you will see results.

5. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
