The Edge and Back: One man’s journey with his first Cookies & Cream Quest Bar
I don’t mean to brag, but I have nearly 30 years of experience when it comes to enjoying cookies and cream. I’ve had it in the form of ice-cream, cheesecake, milkshakes and even experimental chewing gum, which was a mistake. I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s one of the most popular flavors in the history of mankind. Rumor has it; there are detailed cookies and cream recipes recorded on ancient Sumerian tablets. I could be wrong about that. I just checked, and I’m totally wrong about that. Either way, dessert lovers of all ages adore this famous flavor, and many of us consider it a default favorite.
That being said, a co-worker was kind enough to offer me a Cookies and Cream Quest Bar. Because of my distinguished experience with the flavor, I was skeptical as I casually opened the striking Quest wrapper. Expecting only sustenance, I got kicked right in the taste buds.
I began to chew the first bite. The flavor was so wonderful and immediate that I had to put the Quest Bar down. I took a cautious look around the office to see if anyone was filming my reaction. Maybe I was the victim of a bizarre, food-oriented prank show. After roughly 3 minutes of chewing, I decided it was time to let go of the first bite and swallow it. It was tough to say goodbye.
The sensation continued with each and every bite. At one point, I found myself chuckling while I released a quiet “Oh man”. Or was I yelling it? I didn’t know, nor did I care. My enjoyment of the Quest Bar reached a level of deep appreciation. When I finally came to, the co-worker to my right was asking me to let go of his arm, and I was singing “The Time of My Life” from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. I should have been embarrassed, but I wasn’t. It’s a great song.
The Quest cookies and cream experience left me amazed and no longer hungry. I was astonished with the flavor, texture and the speed at which I finished the Quest Bar. It was a bit reckless, but I’d do it again.
In fact, I’m about to eat one right now. For the safety of others, I’ll enjoy this in the parking lot.
