Questions with CrossFitter James Hobart

James has worked and learned from some of the most prominent coaches in CrossFit and hopes to share that knowledge with athletes from all walks of life.

James Hobart started working with strength and conditioning coaches back in 2005 while training for high school and club sports. Seeing the benefits that training had in all aspects of life, James started training others part-time. After finding CrossFit in 2007, James worked part-time at CrossFit Great Barrington before moving to Boston in 2008 to coach at CrossFit Boston. Since then, James has worked and learned from some of the most prominent coaches in CrossFit and hopes to share that knowledge with athletes from all walks of life.

Who or what got you started in CrossFit?

Mike Bissaillon, who is now owner of CrossFit Great Barrington coaxed me into CrossFit in 2007.

Who is your inspiration?

Lots of people inspire me, especially the coaches and athletes I have met in CrossFit.

What is one piece of advise you give to new Cross Fitters?

Be patient and find a group to click with.

What is a quote that you live by?

Service is the rent we pay for having space on Earth. I don¹t know if I live by that, but it is in my head as often as I can think.

What does your typical diet consist of?

Lots of chicken sausages, applegate chicken, beef, turkey dogs; ricecakes, grassfed butter, stir-fry for veggies, Chipotle, and an excessive amount of those peanut butter cups you guys make.

What’s your goal or goals for the year?

It¹s not CrossFit or fitness related but I would really like to buy a house. If I do compete in CrossFit again I would like to get back to the games.

If someone’s interested in CrossFit but have never tried it what would
you suggest?

If you have never done CrossFit go to an affiliate and bring a friend. Understand that it is your world: you can start as light or slow as you want. Everyone started somewhere and they will help you find your goal.
